A Message from the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs...
Aloha nō! Welcome to the Fall 2020 semester!
As we embark on a new semester and you navigate through your individual academic journeys within our shared COVID-19 reality, please know that your Hawaiʻi Community College faculty, staff and administrators have been working very hard to provide you with the tools and information you need to succeed. We are here for you, and want to help, as best as we can.
YOUR CLASSES
In response to President David Lassnerʻs direction to reduce physical presence on campus, we are still working on changing classes from face-to-face to 100% online. While we process the changes, the classes will not appear in Check Class Availability and may appear to have been removed from your schedule. Once we process the changes, the classes will show up, again. You will be notified via email if any of your classes change. We hope to complete all the changes by the end of the first week of instruction. We apologize for any confusion these changes cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.
For classes that cannot meet online and will continue to meet face-to-face, social distancing and strict sanitization protocols (see more information below) will be followed to protect our students and faculty.
We have asked our faculty to reach out to their students, because we know all of these changes are confusing. If you have not heard from your instructor, please email them for more information.
TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER
It is the nature of the COVID-19 virus, that the best way for us to take care of ourselves is to take care of each other - by wearing face coverings, social distancing, washing our hands, and staying home if you are feeling sick.
- You are required to wear a face covering while on site. Students who are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition or disability should contact Mari Giel at marigiel@hawaii.edu BEFORE coming to campus or attempting to attend an in-person class.
- If you plan to come to campus, you must complete a daily check-in health assessment at LumiSight(https://uh.campus.lumisight.com/). You will be asked to demonstrate that you are safe to be on campus prior to being allowed in a classroom or office.
- If you are subject to the 14-Day quarantine, have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, test positive for COVID-19, need to self-isolate while awaiting COVID-19 test results you must report this information to Dorinna Cortez, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at hawcovid@hawaii.edu.
As a student, and a member of our precious Kauhale, you have the kuleana (responsibility) to abide by the
University of Hawai'i Student Conduct Code. To support you in meeting this responsibility as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University has provided this
Appendix 1: Student Infectious Disease Mitigation in Respons to COVID-19 to highlight how the Student Conduct Code applies to compliance with COVID-19 related requirements. Please familiarize yourself with these two documents and contact Kaleo Quintana, Student Conduct Administrator, at
kaleopon@hawaii.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
COVID-19 POINT OF CONTACT FOR STUDENTS
